Positioning For the New Economy

In the world, one thing that is ever so constant is change. It is no longer rumour that companies and countries are working hard on cost reduction in order to weather the storm of a pandemic.

With these challenges, imagine the number of breadwinners who will have no bread to win, imagine the difficulty families will face if their source of income is terminated. People are losing jobs everyday as a result of a challenging economic season. Not because they are not good people but because the dynamics are changing and good people must learn to become smart and position for the new economy in order to survive.

Today, we are facing an economic whirlwind. Corona virus has changed the landscape in a way our generation has never known it. Developed countries are getting overwhelmed while countries in the global south are battling to stay afloat economically but the effect of the lockdown has brought another kind of virus to the fur – the hunger virus!

While there have been several talks about diversification and finding new ways of doing things, it has never been more evident than now. According to Kristalina Georgina, the Managing Director of International Monetary Fund (IMF), “Nigeria’s economy is being threatened by the twin shocks of the COVID-19 pandemic and associated sharp fall in international oil prices.” For Nigeria, it has become imperative to move away from a consumption-based economy to a production-based economy.

The good news is that technology has created for the world, a borderless economy enabled by the strength of innovation and ideas. While the market in your local community may not be booming because of a government-imposed shutdown, the online market is still selling. This reality has made two types of economy possible: personal economy and national economy.
